Out-of-auto experience
The other day I was walking with a friend near his house. We were coming from Van Ness and crossed Franklin on Oak. We continued walking up Oak towards Buchanan. This means that we were walking the wrong way up a one way street. Not that it matters since we were pedestrians.
"Oh my god, I have never been here on foot before," I said.
"Hm."
"I drive by here probably several times a day when I'm driving a cab."
"Yeah?"
"Totally. But I have never walked here before."
"Huh."
"And I have never seen it from this perspective because I never go the wrong way on a one way street."
"Yeah."
"It's really weird."
"Are you having an out-of-auto experience?"
"Yes. I think I am."
"Oh my god, my feet. They are moving!"
"Exactly."

Try running up a down escalator. The steps appear not to be moving and you have to make a mad dash up the last bit not touching the handrails. Its fun and a good workout.
Wow, I have totally experienced this too. The things you notice while fare hunting are completely different from those things you notice while walking.
The "out-of-auto experience" quote is apropo: it's a strange thought to me that I'm in the same physical space, but the feeling I have while walking is a universe apart from driving.
